I normaly understood pause(silence) as breaking the flow of conversation.
I read somewhere as silence being the original mode of communication and sounds(coversation) breaking its flow. Humans have deciphered such sounds and made it speach, thus forgetting the original mode of communication(silence).
Made me think.
