Reservations....as our constitution makers have visualized that a quota of reserved seats to the oppressed class namely scheduled castes and scheduled tribes in educational institutions would ensure education to all and will help cut down the parity between the forward classes (definition of which has to get a relook as it got totally mauled as per the malign intentions of a few, should we say, leaders of backward classes) and the oppressed and thus improve the literacy rate. But, this was done to uplift the education standards of the oppressed illiterate sections of society which were backward due to lack of education.
However, the short term measure seems to have taken the fascination of the political and policy makers who slowly and gradually amended the structure of constitution and made reservations par fundamental rights.
These groups of leaders are so “charismatic” that they have succeeded in convincing the so 'labeled' scheduled classes and tribes that they are inferior citizens and at no point of time can match the intelligence or caliber of so called ‘forward classes’.
The irony is,these people are convinced that they are not fit and without reservation they cannot match the intelligent forward class.
Thanks to these leaders for admitting that they do not want intelligence and of course, to win a policy making seat, i.e., MP/MLA seat, it is the votes which are required and, definitely not intelligence.
I pity the populace of India which are so openly degraded by their own leaders and this makes me envy the countries like the USA, who are reaping rich due to the migration of intelligent and meritorious brains of our country. I pity my brethren who are branded as low class by their own leaders and with their willingness. Even if there be established many a institutes of various disciplines only for the backward classes, does it in anyway mean or say that those getting educated in these colleges will not be called backward classes. So, it means to say that though our leaders make these reservations at par with fundamental rights by amending our constitution(in which amendments constitute a bigger volume than the original work), and rise the quotas to 100%, still, this section of population will be called backward class(remember, not by default or oppression, but by their own willingness).
What good these reservations are, when people make it a means of earning.
What good these reservations are, when they cannot still get parity between classes since last 50 years.
What good these reservations are, when the so called backward classes feel proud of being called backward and are willing to remain so for want of facilities provided under the garb of reservation.
Have we progressed any miniscule distance ahead on these terms or are we planning to count our strides on basis of merit.
Can we afford to undermine merit?
Though our youth is highly qualified, intelligent, they are haunted by reservations in education and job opportunities. Imagine a boy getting rejected in a job despite getting 90% marks in academics and another with 35% gets the job because of reservation, which eventually leads these young boys with merit,to go and serve in a different country where merit is appreciated and valued. (And our ministers talk about brain drain).
Haven't we reached a point in time where we can completely do away with reservations?

Even after half a century of independence, we still hav reservations.
The irony is, the quota just keeps increasing and the politicians are using it for their benefit,so rightly put down by u.

What a shame, that our country's coming generations will face such a great challenge even to complete their basic education.
Very scary future for our kids.
