THE BHAGAVAD GITA SAYS THUS.......
The man dwelling on sense objects develops attachments for them, from attachment springs up desire and from desire ensues anger, from anger arises infatuation, from infatuation arises confusion of memory, from confusion of memory arises loss of reason, from loss of reason one goes to complete ruin.

He who has not controlled his mind and senses can have no reason; nor can such an indisciplined man think of GOD.... The unthinking man can have no peace; and how can there be happiness for one lacking peace of mind.

It says senses are higher than objects, mind is still higher than senses, intellect is way above mind AND even higher than intellect is the SUPREME SELF. So with mind under control, we should slay this enemy, desire, which is so difficult to conquer.....may be one step/one act towards that every day/month/year can achieve this.

Hmm... My working hypothesis says that you dont need to curb your desires, as long as they are in the bounds of nature and in the bounds of legality as per the socio-cultural norms. Raamaayana is an example-- what do you say, sir?
